What is a CTA and why does it matter?

The acronym CTA stands for call to action.

A call to action is a prompt in your communications that tells your audience what you want them to do or what action you want them to take.

For example, do you want your audience to visit your website?

Do you want them to complete a form?

Do you want them call you?

When to use a CTA

CTAs are essential for nearly all of your brand’s messaging.

Let’s say you plan to produce a video.

You first need to ask yourself how the video will be used and what you want viewers to do after watching it.

If it’s a video you plan to use for fundraising, then it should contain a CTA at the end instructing people how to make a donation.

For example, “To support families in need, donate TODAY at X website.”

If you’re building a website, that requires multiple CTAs in various places.

For example, maybe you want people to complete a form on your “Contact” page.

In that scenario, you need a CTA above the form indicating what the user should do— “To connect with us, complete the form below and we will be in touch!”

Perhaps you’re writing a blog?

You need a CTA at the end of every blog!

You’ll find one at the end of this blog.

Why CTAs are important

There are various types of CTAs, each used to achieve different outcomes.

They’re important, because they help your audience take deliberate action.

Don’t forget this essential step in your marketing efforts.
